History

In 2011, the Turkish company StandartBio proposed a large-scale modernization program for outdated M60 tanks. The program was called the Affordable Main Battle Tank (AMBT) and was aimed to increase combat effectiveness of M60 tanks to a level roughly equivalent to modern main battle tanks. The main changes of this modernization were a new 1200 hp diesel engine, a modern fire control system with a ballistic computer and independent stabilization of the aiming line through a digital gunner’s sight, as well as a new smooth-bore M256 120-mm gun. The tank’s protection also increased slightly by installing solid hull side screens and tower slat screens. In addition, the tank received an electric turret drive, new surveillance optics, and a 25-mm automatic cannon in the commander’s turret. The AMBT modernization program was designed entirely for foreign operators of the M60 from several countries in Africa and Southeast Asia.

Description

The ␗M60A3 TTS is a rank VI Chinese medium tank
with a battle rating of 8.7 (AB/RB/SB). It was introduced in Update 1.91 «Night Vision».

As with the previous M48A1, this M60A3 is a US medium tank operated by Taiwan. It boasts thermal sights, a two-plane stabilizer, good gun handling, and a wide selection of ammunition. It does suffer from a large profile, average mobility, and inadequate protection, but the M60A3 TTS is by and large a reliable tank that complements the contemporary ZTZ59D1 quite well.

Succeeding the M60A3 is the CM11, which uses the same hull but boasts better chemical protection and firepower.

The M60A1 (1962)

This was the first major version and mass-production model, characterized by a new “needle nose” turret. The latter was not adopted immediately, and a significant number still fielded the M48A3 turret. It was in service since the spring of 1962. As it was at least two tons heavier, this forced the adoption of a shock absorber on the second roadwheel pair and was also accompanied by a slight relocation of the first return roller.
The Continental engine was now the AVDS-1790-2C, served by the Allison CD-850-6A powershift cross-drive transmission. Other minor internal modifications were made to the hull. Early M60A1s had no gun stabilization system. An AOS or add-on-stabilizer was retrofitted in the early 1970s, enhancing first hit killing rate by keeping the gun close to the aim while on the move.

Protection was improved (thanks to reports from the 1973 war) with the adoption of add-on chin armor for the turret. In the engine, a new hydraulic fluid prevented the danger of internal fire by lowering the point of ignition. In 1974 and 1975, these tanks were upgraded with RISE (Reliability Improvement of Selected Equipment), consisting in a new engine configuration, and in 1977, the RISE/passive appeared. It consisted in the adoption of passive IR sights for the driver, gunner and commander. The need for a massive IR illuminator above the gun was therefore eliminated. In 1978-79, a battery of two smoke dischargers banks was fitted on either side of the turret. The M60A1 was also retrofitted with the M60A3 T142 tracks with replaceable trackpads. But by the 1980s, after these upgrades, the M60A1 was only distinguished from the M60A3 by its lack of crosswind sensor, armored flap of the TTS and thermal shroud for the main gun. These tanks formed the backbone of the US armored forces until the M1 Abrams became operational. The base armour layout of the M60A3 TTS is the same as the M60A1 RISE (P). Unlike the US version, it does not have ERA panels, making chemical munitions a large threat.

The armour is similar to the layout originally featured on the M60A1 (AOS). It consists entirely of cast and rolled homogeneous armour. The frontal hull armour and turret cheeks are fairly thick and can generally shrug off fire from Soviet APHE rounds and autocannons. The large volumetric gun mantlet has impressive thickness at some points and may be able to shrug off APDS rounds at times, though the majority of APFSDS rounds will go through. When the turret is pointed directly at a threat, the turret cheeks are also surprisingly strong against kinetic rounds. The turret ring is a notable weak zone, only 114 mm thick and fairly large in size. The commander’s cupola bulges from the top of the turret and is lightly protected, making it an attractive target for APHE and high-calibre HE rounds.

With only steel armour, the M60A3’s protection should not be trusted. Considering the tank’s unimpressive mobility, enemy flankers are a real concern as well, and nearly every weapon at the M60A3’s rank can penetrate the hull sides as well. It is practically naked against chemical or subcaliber munitions, so avoiding hits is paramount.

The M60A3 TTS’s mobility is unimpressive. The power-to-weight and reverse speed are only slightly better than the ZTZ59D1 and pale in comparison to the Leopard A1A1 or OF-40 Mk.2A. Do not expect to arrive on the battlefield before others and be careful not to overextend. It does have neutral steering and can turn in place, which may be a nice bonus for players used to driving Soviet/PRC tanks.

Боевая эффективность

Этот СТ обладает хорошей динамикой, неплохой манёвренностью и отличными показателями огневой мощи, однако бронирование танка оставляет желать лучшего, а в сочетании с большими габаритами играть на М60 нужно очень аккуратно. В то же время, показатели ТТХ говорят об обратном. Благодаря высокой динамике и огневой мощи, танк способен наносить быстрые, точные, сильные удары и уходить. Также, высокая мобильность позволяет вовремя переместиться на проблемное направление и помочь там союзникам.
Хотя танк и обладает высоким обзором, даже роль пассивного светляка будет затруднительна из-за больших размеров машины, а заменять ради просветлённой оптики или стереотрубы с маскировкой досылатель, стабилизатор или вентилятор будет опрометчиво. Также, М60 противопоказан ближний контактный бой, так как броня танка не держит никакие удары, кроме маски орудия. Выходить на противника нужно лишь в том случае, если угрозы со стороны не существует.

Description

The 105 mm Gun Tank M60A3 TTS is a rank VI American medium tank
with a battle rating of 9.0 (AB/RB/SB). It was introduced in Update 1.95 «Northern Wind».

Very similar to the previous M60A1 RISE (P), the M60A3 TTS differs with the addition of a thermal sight for the gunner, a laser rangefinder replacing the original optical version, and access to better rounds. Weight, protection, mobility, and other characteristics are virtually the same as its predecessor — this tank holds no surprises. At its rank, the M60 platform begins to show its age, being much slower than a number of contemporary MBTs like the Leopard A1A1 while not having enough armour to resist APFSDS rounds. It is best used with caution as a support or backup tank, where its good gun and thermals are effective and its deficiencies are less apparent.

имеет неплохой, хотя и не лучший, но зато скорость сведения в нашем случае превосходная, да и стабилизация на высоте.

Последнее, о чем стоит знать — M60 WoT
является обладателем комфортных углов вертикальной наводки, ствол у него гнется вниз на 9 градусов и это тоже очень приятно.

Player Recommendations[]

With a well-designed turret and ample gun depression, the M60A1 serves as a viable ridge poker and hull down defender that can also brawl in a pinch. While its hull armor is mediocre at best and its mobility is lacking, it compensates for this with a relatively high rate of fire and good gun handling, along with being one of the first vehicles in the game to offer ERA protection.

Upgrade Suggestions

The first upgrade that should be applied to the M60A1 is the RISE ERA package, which massively increases protection against HEAT ammunition, increasing survivability.  Upgrades to firepower should be considered next, to help remove enemies from the battlefield even faster.

Конструктивные особенности

Пулемет М60 конструктивно основан на автоматике с газовым приводом. Запирание ствола происходит под воздействием поворота затвора. Модель оснащена быстросменным стволом, что вызвано склонностью к его перегреву в ходе продолжительного огня. Питание патронами – ленточное. Что касается прицельного приспособления, последнее практически не отличается от образца, устанавливаемого на автоматическую винтовку М16.

Пулемет может устанавливаться на треноге либо на сошке. Максимальная дальность ведения огня составляет порядка 1800 м. На этом расстоянии сохраняется убойное действие оружия. Для гашения ударных нагрузок приклад комплектуется резиновой оболочкой.
